Long term Perth clients, Geoff and Heather Nicholls are over the moon after their two year old filly, Gold Rocks stiffed the opposition in last Saturdays Group 2 Karrakatta Plate as Ascot. The gutsy filly, who started at 15/1 in the $500,000 event, camped behind the leaders before taking a gap and pulling a length clear.
By WA based first season sire Oratorio (by Stravinsky), Gold Rocks was bred by the Nicholls family from their mare, Alozie. Looking at the pedigree, it is no surprise that she is proving a sharp juvenile.
Oratorio was a precocious runner, taking out three races as a two year old all of which were stakes races including the Adelaide Magic Millions. He also ran fourth in the Gold Coast Magic Millions behind Dance Hero.
Gold Rocks first two dam sires, Luskin Star and Zeditave, were both Group One winning two year olds, the former a Golden Slipper winner and the latter a Blue Diamond winner.
The Nicholls family are also the proud owners of the old war horse, Dakas Gem, who was purchased through Pedigree Dynamics. Now a nine year old, Dakas Gem has been a great money spinner for them, having won over $680,000 to-date and still earning!
