Godolphin Racings 2007 Champion 2YO Filly in Chile, COCOA BEACH is certainly living up to the reputation held by Chilean bred thoroughbreds for both talent and toughness. Prior to making the journey to the United States, COCOA BEACH was racing in the UAE where she took it to the boys in the UAE Derby Gr2, earning herself a very credible 3rd place.
Coming off a win in the Listed Saratoga Love Signs Stakes, COCOA BEACH collared the defending Eclipse champion handicap mare GINGER PUNCH in the Gr1 Belmont Beldame Stakes before running a brave 2nd place to race favorite ZENYETTA (who now remains unbeaten in eight starts) in the 2008 Breeders Cup Challenge Ladies Classic (formerly the Breeders Cup Distaff).
Another entrant in the Breeders Cup Ladies with a Chilean connection was HYSTERICALADY the best performed daughter of leading sire DISTORTED HUMOR out of 1991 Chilean champion older mare SACRAMENTADA. Hystericalady, known for her explosive turn of foot, qualified for the prestigious race when she romped home by four lengths in the 2008 Delaware Handicap, in which she tackled the 10 furlong distance for the first time in her career. Earlier in the year Hystericalady won the Gr2 Fleur de Lis Handicap by seven and a half lengths, giving up nine pounds to her rivals before again devastated her competitors when she won the Gr2 Molly Pitcher Stakes (for the second time) by eight lengths!
