During this time of economic turmoil, we thought that we should touch on how the crisis affects the owners of breeding stock & racehorses. We know that many people have taken some big hits on the stock market and that many people are nervous about reinvesting in such a volatile time. The Australian Thoroughbred industry currently presents a great opportunity for investors:
Firstly, international clients who usually source their breeding stock in the United States are now looking to our shores due to the reduced exchange rate of the Aussie dollar. We have buyers in India, Brazil, Argentina and Chile who are now well positioned to purchase stakes winning stallions (particularly Danehill line stallions) and exceptionally well bred broodmares from Australia.
Secondly, many bloodstock owners are now being forced to sell their breeding stock under value and while it is an unfortunate position to be in, it does present an opportunity for the shrewd buyer. The general rule to any investment is, of course - buy low then sell high and bloodstock is no different. Racing prize money remains unaffected by the fortunes of Wall Street and the NASDAQ so purchasing bloodstock now while prices are down, will only increase the margin of profit when you find yourself collecting that winners trophy and sash!
